Our Principles

Each project is treated individually and with sensitivity to the artwork’s context and history. We aim to make paintings structurally secure and to regain their integrity and authenticity through a sympathetic and informed approach. Equipped with up to date knowledge of conservation methods and using high-grade reversible materials, we aim to minimize the objects’ deterioration whilst reviving its aesthetic qualities. Our decisions are underpinned by art historical and technical research, and of course the “spirit of a place”. We understand that historic collections are complex, possessing tangible and intangible value.

The Studio operates according to the professional standards and codes of conduct and ethics as set out by the Institute of Conservation (Icon) and the International Council of Museums (ICOM). We are a community of highly trained, accredited conservators-restorers and members of the British Association of Paintings Conservator-Restorers (BAPCR).
